A Man’s Guide To Fall Style

Fall is here, and with the change in weather means a change in clothing.

Although Fall is menswear’s favorite season because there are now a lot more options, it can be daunting to figure out what to wear.

Certain things come and go out of fashion every autumn, but the principles of dressing for the season remain unchanged. Today, we’ll look at some of those principles.

Now, ideally, you’re wearing colors, fabrics, and styles that are the best options for you specifically (which is what we help you with) rather than relying on someone’s opinion, but if you’re clueless and looking to get a head start on looking great this fall, these tips are for you.

FALL FABRICS

Since Fall style is inspired more by the outdoors and warm, cozy feelings, we want to use fabrics that are a bit tougher and rougher than a fabric that looks sleek and shiny. Examples include denim, corduroy, tweed, waxed cotton, or leather.

These more robust materials all have a rugged look suited to the season. An easy way to incorporate these fabrics is doing so in jackets. All those fabrics I mentioned above are easy to find in layering pieces.

FALL COLORS

Fall is all about rich, earthy tones. You can incorporate some of those deeper autumn colors you’d see in nature into your wardrobe, like brown, olive, and burgundy.

These colors all pair well with neutrals like black, gray, and white, meaning you’ll easily put outfits together since you likely already have those neutrals.

FALL LAYERS

Layering is an essential part of fall style since it’s now cold enough to do it. Adding a layer is the easiest way to elevate an outfit of yours. It gives your outfit more dimension - meaning it has more visual depth - more going on.

Key pieces to get you started include a denim trucker jacket, a flannel overshirt, a tweed sportcoat, and a waxed cotton chore coat. You can pop these over something as simple as a white tee for easy pairing.

FALL KNITS

Besides jackets, you’ll need some knitwear to keep you cozy. Look for crewneck sweaters, quarter-zip sweaters, long-sleeve polos, and cardigans. Bonus points if you get them in the colors I mentioned above.

To make it simple, I would get all of these items in Merino Wool, which is naturally lightweight, wrinkle-resistant, and temperature-regulating.

How easy is this - you now know what items to get, made from what fabric, in what colors.

FALL SHOES

Let’s not leave off the finishing touch of your outfit, which is your footwear. Fall footwear, like all the other fall items, is a more robust and less delicate-looking shoe made from heavier fabrics.

The go-to item is a pair of boots, ideally in full-grain leather or suede. If you’re new to boots, the entry pair I often recommend is called a Chukka Boot, which functions more like a high-top sneaker.

If you’ve got that already or want a more rugged look, go with a chunkier boot with a lug sole.

Fall is here, so get yourself set up with the right items, fabrics, and colors and you’ll be able to easily put together great outfits all season long.

Hope this helps.
